2026 World Youth Spring Festival Couplets Competition

The 2026 World Youth Spring Festival Couplets Competition drew to a successful close on [2026.02.12], evolving into a globally recognized stage where young talents can showcase their understanding of Chinese culture and their creativity in couplet creation. This distinguished event brought together passionate young people from across the globe, challenging them to demonstrate their calligraphy skills, poetic creativity, and cross-cultural expression charm in a high-stakes couplet contest.

Jury Conducts Rigorous and Transparent Evaluation

The professional jury, consisting of renowned calligraphers, Chinese literature professors, and couplet experts, adhered to the principles of rigor, fairness, and transparency throughout multiple evaluation rounds. Judges assessed the entries based on two core dimensions: couplet creation skills (including calligraphy mastery, rhyme accuracy, antithesis standardization, and emotional delivery) and couplet creative presentation (such as thematic relevance to Spring Festival, stylistic innovation, and cross-cultural integration).

  • Couplet Creation Skills:Evaluations focused on the contestants' command of complex couplet techniques, such as stable presentation of traditional calligraphy styles (regular script, running script, cursive script, etc.) and stylistic variations, precise control of rhyme and antithesis rules, and the ability to enhance artistic appeal through the integration of calligraphic sensitivity and emotional expression that fits the festive atmosphere of Spring Festival.

  • Couplet Creative Presentation:Standout entries included reinterpreting classic Spring Festival couplets with modern creative expressions (e.g., integrating modern calligraphy styles into traditional couplet content) or original couplet works (e.g., creations exploring Spring Festival customs, the beauty of new year hopes, or the friendship between peoples of all countries).

  • Cross-Cultural Relevance:Works that combined African traditional patterns with Chinese calligraphy structures, or integrated Asian folk customs into Spring Festival couplet creation, showcased exceptional cross-cultural art integration vision. Some contestants also created couplets in both Chinese and foreign languages, conveying the joy of Spring Festival to the world in a more inclusive way.
