Competition Content

  • In terms of design styles and creation tools, participants can employ a variety of Halloween costume design styles and techniques, including but not limited to horror-themed (e.g., classic monsters, supernatural beings), fantasy-themed (e.g., mythical creatures, magical characters), retro-themed (e.g., vintage horror movie characters, old-fashioned Halloween aesthetics), pop culture-themed (e.g., Halloween-inspired versions of movie/TV/game characters), minimalist-themed, and original avant-garde designs. They may use traditional costume-making materials and tools (such as fabric, sewing kits, hand-painted pigments, foam, and decorative trims) for creation, or opt for modern creative tools like 3D printing components, LED light strips, interactive electronic modules, and special effect materials (e.g., glow-in-the-dark paint, fake blood, prosthetic makeup kits). Whether it is a solo costume design, a paired costume set (e.g., matching character duos), a small group costume series (e.g., a themed team of 3-5 people), or a collaborative design that combines costumes with scene props (or background settings), participants are encouraged to create works in any form, giving full play to their personal design strengths and creativity.

  • Participants are required to submit their works in the form of high-quality image or video files. The images must ensure clear resolution (no less than 1920×1080 pixels), undistorted colors, and accurate capture of the costume’s details (e.g., fabric texture, decorative details, structural design) and overall styling effect. If submitting a video, it should clearly present the complete display process of the costume, including full-body shots of the costume from multiple angles, close-ups of key design details, dynamic effects of the costume (e.g., how accessories move with body movements, light-up effects in dark environments), the wearer’s posture expression (to showcase the costume’s fit and thematic consistency), and related visual elements (e.g., matching makeup, supporting props, background scenes that enhance the Halloween theme). If the costume includes special design elements, such as detachable structural parts, interactive effect modules (e.g., sound-activated lights), or hand-made craft details (e.g., hand-embroidered patterns, hand-sculpted props), it is recommended to fully present these aspects. The image formats are limited to JPG and PNG, and the video formats are limited to MP4 and MOV, with the file size not exceeding [100] MB (the size limit can be set appropriately according to actual conditions).

Scoring Criteria

  • Costume Structure and Design Composition:The overall design structure of the costume is reasonable. Whether it is a solo costume, paired costume set, small group costume series, or a collaborative design combining costumes with scene props (or background settings), the arrangement of each part (e.g., main costume body, accessories, matching makeup) is appropriate. The proportions of key design elements (such as silhouette, color matching, decorative details) and the balance between the costume and supporting elements (e.g., props, background) are accurate, with no obvious issues of design imbalance. The logical connection of the costume’s overall style follows a coherent order, and the transitions between different design sections (such as from the costume’s main body to accessory details, from individual costume to group costume coordination) are natural, smooth, and tightly connected.

  • Visual Texture and Thematic Expression:The visual texture of the costume (paired with supporting elements like props or background) is harmonious, and the overall visual effect of the design is rich in layers. Based on the Halloween theme (e.g., horror, fantasy, retro) and intended emotional tone (e.g., eerie, playful, mysterious), appropriate design techniques are employed. For example, shifts in thematic atmosphere are conveyed through texture gradations (such as a transition from matte fabric to glossy trim on a horror-themed costume, subtle changes in color depth), and key design highlights are emphasized through visual contrasts (like the contrast between sharp, angular silhouette and soft, flowing fabric, the tonal difference between dark base colors and bright accent details). The transition of visual style between different parts of the costume or between the costume and supporting elements is natural and smooth, enhancing the overall visual experience.

  • Mastery of Creation Techniques and Craftsmanship:The costume’s production is meticulous and professional, demonstrating mastery of various creation techniques and craftsmanship. This includes material control abilities (such as precise cutting of fabric, stable fixing of accessories, smooth application of pigments/makeup), application of special craft techniques (like 3D-printed detail production, LED light integration, prosthetic makeup sculpting, hand-embroidered decorative patterns), and coordination skills (for paired/group costumes or costume-props collaboration). These techniques are applied skillfully and superbly, reflecting a high level of craftsmanship. Whether handling complex structural designs (e.g., detachable costume parts), delicate decorative details (e.g., micro-scale hand-painted patterns), or functional elements (e.g., interactive light modules), the creator maintains excellent control and precision.

  • Thematic Appeal and Visual Resonance:The creator has a profound understanding of the Halloween theme and can fully integrate their own creative concepts and thematic interpretations into the costume design. The costume is engaging and expressive, capable of evoking strong visual resonance from the audience—whether it is the eerie and immersive feel inherent in horror-themed costumes, the whimsical charm in fantasy-themed designs, or the nostalgic atmosphere in retro-themed creations. The costume’s overall presentation (such as the wearer’s posture matching the theme, the coordination between group costumes, and the sense of scene integration in recorded images/videos) and interpretation of the Halloween spirit are also important considerations. The design leaves a deep and lasting impression, effectively conveying the artistic concepts and thematic core that the costume intends to express through skilled craftsmanship and sincere creative expression.
