Scoring Criteria
-
Judges will evaluate and score contestants based on their overall performance in the submitted music performance video. Scores will range from 0 to 100 points.
-
These scoring criteria are designed to evaluate contestants’ performances fairly and objectively. The specific details for each scoring category are as follows:
-
Performance/Vocal Technique (30%)
-
Technical Application and Precision
-
This assesses the contestant’s precise mastery of performance and vocal techniques, as well as instrument handling, including intonation, rhythm, consistent tone, dynamic control, technical diversity, phrasing, and attention to detail. This assesses whether the contestant can flexibly apply various performance and vocal techniques to suit both traditional and modern musical styles, with natural and harmonious technical combinations. It also evaluates the contestant’s ability to master the difficulty of the piece, convey its essence through technique, and control the layers of the performance and emotional tension.
-
Tonal Balance and Overall Harmony
-
This evaluates the contestant’s understanding and interpretive ability regarding tonal balance and the overall harmony of the musical performance. The contestant must flexibly apply techniques for tonal control and phrasing transitions based on the piece’s theme and emotional requirements, while ensuring stylistic consistency and alignment between technique and the piece’s essence. Performances of traditional pieces require well-structured layers and a steady rhythm; performances of lyrical pieces require a delicate tone and rich emotional expression. In multi-section pieces, the contestant must ensure seamless transitions in tone and technique, maintain a unified and harmonious overall style, and demonstrate their ability to control their tone.
-
Performance Style and Creativity (25%)
-
Uniqueness of Style
-
This evaluates whether the contestant’s musical performance style possesses a distinct personal character. It assesses the ability to incorporate unique interpretations and creative reinterpretations while adhering to the fundamental standards of musical performance, thereby standing out among the competitors. For example, some contestants blend characteristics of different musical styles (such as fusing the ancient charm of traditional folk music with modern pop vocal techniques, or pairing classical instruments with light electronic music) to create a performance style that preserves the original essence of the piece while showcasing their personal flair; or develop a unique musical language through tone processing, rhythmic adaptation, and emotional expression, ensuring that every performance bears a distinct personal imprint and showcases a distinctive artistic perspective.
-
Performance Innovation
-
This evaluates the novelty of musical works in terms of performance form, such as innovative interpretive approaches (e.g., cross-genre adaptations or reinterpretations of pieces through personal life experiences), innovative forms of expression (e.g., the judicious use of special instrumental techniques, integration of physical stage performance, or light live accompaniment), innovations in content integration (such as the fusion of foreign repertoire with local aesthetics, or the blending of traditional performance techniques with contemporary expression), and the fusion of ancient and modern musical styles (such as adapting classical pieces with modern interpretive approaches, or incorporating traditional folk melodies into pop songs). These elements should demonstrate originality, making the overall performance more experimental and artistically compelling, thereby highlighting the contestant’s innovative thinking.
-
Repertoire Suitability and Emotional Atmosphere (20%)
-
Repertoire Suitability
-
This evaluates whether the emotions and thematic depth conveyed by the musical performance align closely with the central theme of this music competition. For example, by selecting a performance piece that aligns with their personal temperament and embodies both artistic merit and positive energy, and by employing a performance style that matches the piece, the contestant should resonate with the competition’s artistic theme through the content, tonal style, and interpretive rhythm of the performance, thereby fully conveying the core essence of the piece.
-
Emotional Expression
-
This assesses whether the contestant can integrate their understanding of and emotional connection to the piece into the performance through the comprehensive application of performance techniques (such as variations in tone depth, breath control, tempo, and phrasing dynamics), their on-stage presence, and nuanced tonal presentation, thereby creating the corresponding musical atmosphere. For example, conveying the joyful and uplifting atmosphere of a piece through a bright, full-bodied tone and a cheerful, flowing rhythm; or conveying the core of a lyrical, healing piece through a gentle, subdued tone and a soothing rhythm. This allows the judges to experience various emotional states—whether passionate, tender, profound, or healing—through the musical performance, deeply grasp the intrinsic spirit of the performance, and immerse themselves in the unique musical atmosphere created by the piece.
-
Performance Difficulty and Artistic Impact (25%)
-
Demonstration of Difficulty
-
This criterion evaluates the technical difficulty and emotional depth of the repertoire chosen by the contestant. For example, the performance may involve highly challenging techniques (such as high-speed instrumental playing, precise tone control, singing across a wide vocal range, or the interpretation of complex time signatures), or pieces with unique stylistic characteristics (such as music with exotic cultural elements, modern compositions conveying abstract emotions, or folk-inspired solo pieces); or the performance of classic pieces with deep cultural significance and high interpretive standards, which require solid performance skills, a foundation in musical aesthetics, and cultural literacy regarding the repertoire; or, when interpreting pieces conveying abstract emotions, the ability to musically translate those emotions. Additionally, when performing multi-section pieces with complex arrangements, contestants must demonstrate mastery over the overall style and emotional expression, such as the coordination between different phrases and the continuity of emotional presentation.
-
Artistic Impact
-
This assesses whether the contestant can convey emotion through the performance video, resonating with the judges and allowing them to perceive the contestant’s musical understanding and performance attitude, while demonstrating a profound grasp of the piece’s central theme. Whether in terms of the expressive quality of the sound, the power of emotional delivery, or the presentation of stage presence and charisma, the performance should be natural, fluid, and empathetic, drawing the judges into the moment and allowing them to experience the artistic depth and emotional warmth of the musical performance.
-
During the scoring process, each contestant’s performance video will be independently evaluated by at least two judges to ensure consistency and fairness. The judging panel consists of performers, vocal coaches, and representatives from the music education and cultural sectors, all with deep professional backgrounds in music; their expert evaluations will serve as a crucial basis for the competition results.
