Competition Content

  • Participants can adopt a wide variety of oil painting styles and techniques, including but not limited to realistic painting, impressionism, expressionism, cubism, abstract art, and surrealism. They are welcome to draw inspiration from different cultures, daily life, dreams, and imagination.

  • For creation, they may use traditional oil painting materials and tools, such as oil paints, paintbrushes (various sizes and bristle types), palettes, easels, and canvases. Additionally, they can also choose to incorporate some auxiliary tools like palette knives for unique texture creation, or use mediums to adjust the drying time and texture of the paint. Whether it is a solo oil painting work, a paired creation (for instance, two children collaborating on a diptych), a small group project (where 3 - 5 young artists jointly create a series of related oil paintings), or a collaborative work that combines oil painting with other art forms (such as integrating oil - painted elements into a mixed - media installation), participants are encouraged to explore and create in any form, fully demonstrating their personal artistic strengths and creativity.

  • Participants are required to submit their works in the form of high - quality digital images. The image must ensure a clear and sharp display, accurately capturing every detail of the oil painting, including the texture of the paint, color transitions, brushstrokes, and the overall composition. The image should also present the work's true colors without distortion.

  • If the oil painting contains special painting techniques, such as impasto (thick application of paint), glazing (applying transparent layers of paint), or detailed fine - line work, it is recommended to take multiple angles of photos or use close - up shots to fully present these aspects. The digital image formats are limited to JPEG and PNG, with the file size not exceeding [30] MB (this size limit can be adjusted appropriately according to actual technical conditions). The resolution of the image should be at least 300 dpi to ensure high - quality viewing and printing if necessary.

  • Each participant should submit the digital image along with a brief description of the work, including the title of the painting, the inspiration behind it, and a short statement about the techniques used. The description should be no more than 200 words and should be submitted in a text file (TXT format).

Scoring Criteria

  • Painting Composition and Structure:The overall painting composition structure is reasonable. Whether it is a solo oil painting, paired diptych, small group series, or a collaborative work combining oil painting with other art forms (or mixed-media elements), the arrangement of each part (e.g., subject layout, color blocks, detail distribution) is appropriate. The proportions of composition elements (such as main subject, background, decorative details) and the balance of oil painting elements in relation to other parts (if any) are accurate, with no obvious issues of compositional imbalance. The progression of the painting’s visual logic follows a coherent order, and the transitions between different sections (such as from main subject to background, from detailed parts to overall layout) are natural, smooth, and tightly connected.

  • Color and Texture Expression:The color of the oil painting paired with other elements (or mixed-media materials) is harmonious, and the overall visual effect of the work is rich in layers. Based on the theme and emotion of the painting, appropriate expressive techniques are employed. For example, shifts in emotion are conveyed through color gradations (such as a transition from cool tones to warm tones in a landscape painting, subtle changes in color saturation), and key visual moments are emphasized through texture contrasts (like the thick impasto texture versus thin glazing layers, the tonal difference between rough brushstrokes and delicate fine lines). The transition of color and texture between different sections or material combinations is natural and smooth, enhancing the overall visual experience.

  • Mastery of Painting Techniques and Abilities:The creator’s painting skills are skilled and expressive. They demonstrate mastery of various oil painting techniques, including material control abilities (such as paint consistency control, brushstroke precision, color mixing accuracy), application of special techniques (like impasto, glazing, dry brush, scumbling), and collaboration coordination (for paired/group works or mixed-media combinations). These techniques are applied skillfully and superbly, reflecting a high level of painting ability. Whether handling complex color transitions, delicate detail rendering, large-area color blocking, or unique texture creation, the creator maintains excellent control and precision.

  • Artistic Appeal and Emotional Resonance:The creator has a profound understanding of the painting’s theme and can fully integrate their own emotions and interpretations into the work. The painting is engaging and expressive, capable of evoking strong emotional resonance from the audience—whether it is the realism and vividness inherent in realistic paintings, the romantic atmosphere in impressionist works, or the bold expression in abstract art presentations. Their artistic expression (such as the uniqueness of creative concepts, coordination of visual elements, and a sense of communication with the "viewer" through the work) and interpretation of the painting’s spirit are also important considerations. The work leaves a deep and lasting impression, effectively conveying the artistic concepts and emotional core that the painting intends to express through skilled techniques and sincere expression.
